Since I was young I’ve always felt that the way our society interprets masculine and feminine qualities is totally backwards. The celebrated qualities of the alpha male; being aggressive and quick to anger, dominant and overbearing, insatiably lustful and sexually compulsive… I see these as motivated by weakness and fragility, by a lack of self-awareness and enslavement to a frail ego.
In my world, a ‘real man’ is a man that can cry without shame, a man that bear the pain of facing his own ego, a man that can truly see his flaws and insecurities, a man that is sensitive to how he makes others feel, a man that come overcome the temptations of violent implosion reactions when triggered, a man that can share true intimacy without objectifying or manipulating others, a man that venerates women. The qualities we see as feminine; sensitivity, empathy, nurturance and sweetness… I see these as being powerful and courageous; to be sensitive, to really feel and care in this hurting world necessities tremendous courage and bravery. Its heartbreaking how many of our sisters, daughters and mothers have been abused and face structural oppression every day, but its encouraging that the collective consciousness is growing increasingly intolerant of sexual abuse and toxic masculinity. The resilience and strength of women the world over is a source of constant inspiration. This is dedicated to the fierce cosmic force of the female spirit. RESPECT.
‘A strong woman in her essence is a gift to the world’
